Wanting to get out on the kayak but not wanting to trek far away we quickly chose Lacamas Lake. If you have not been to this absolute GEM of a Park to explore its MTB, Hiking and kayaking options along with picnic spots amazing waterfalls and a very cool dam. It feels like it's in the middle of nowhere instead of in the middle of Camas. Go check it out.
We put-in at in informal launch site on the northeast shoreline and headed North across the huge lily pad fields slowing to say hello to the turtles and ick-out to the huge moss animals floating in the alcoves. Then it was up the creek... with our paddles. For almost 2 miles we paddled up the easy current feeling like we were in Florida at times as the river wound and creeped through all sorts of interesting vegetation. Finally hitting the shallows just below a bridge that crosses the creek and turning around. On our return we looped the north end of the lake found some lotus blossoms and more turtles before paddling back and out. It was a VERY relaxing day on the water, and so close to home.
