Day 4, Craft Cabin Hike
We ended up in Burns at a hotel on purpose. My travel partner is in the middle of her RN-to-BSN and she needed to have internet for a couple days to complete and turn in a couple of projects. For the in-between times we did an awesome hike that Ang found on Less Traveled Northwest. It was about 30 minutes north of Burns and there was, of course, nobody at the trail head... Nobody on the trail,... nobody anywhere. The hike is basically a 6 mile out and back along a gorgeous Alder lined creek with flowers and grassy meadows and lots of pretty flying critters, as you can see. We also were followed, and buzzed by, an adult and an immature Bald Eagle as we hiked, they took turns checking on us. And then the sky sprinkled on us just a little on the way back. A beautiful and peaceful day in the woods.
When we got back to the car a truck and trailer were pulling in. We got a chance to chat with the driver who was a rancher coming down to check the drift fence before they brought a herd of cattle into the valley. That night, since we were in cattle country, we went to THE steak house in Burns. While we were eating a family came in and the father and oldest son were wearing spurs. Gotta love Burns.
After dinner we drove around a wildlife area checking out birds and got to see our very first Avocets, it's cool seeing such a weird bird for thee first time. We also drove out to a very pretty valley SW of town to watch the crazy clouds as the sun set. Cue the moon...
